Utah woman finds cocaine packed inside tampons

SALT LAKE CITY -- Police are investigating after a woman found cocaine packed inside tampons she bought at a Salt Lake City salvage store.

Cindy Davidson tells KSL she bought the product Saturday at The NPS Store, which is part of a company that buys damaged freight and sells it at a discount.

She opened the box Sunday and says she found suspicious packaging and a powdery substance inside the applicator.

Hazardous materials crews responded and determined it was cocaine.

Salt Lake City Police Detective Carlie Wiechman says the tampons appeared to be part of a sophisticated drug-smuggling effort. She says the department will work with the store to get to the bottom of the situation.

KSL reports the store has pulled similar tampons from the shelves.
