Man misses hearing, warrant issued

OGDEN — A no-bail bench warrant has been issued for a man who missed his court hearing on a drug case and is also awaiting sentencing on an assault.

Paris Thornton, 31, failed to appear for a status conference in 2nd District Court on a second-degree felony drug distribution charge.

Thornton was arrested April 19 by Ogden police who found him in possession of an amount of crack cocaine considered large enough for distribution, according to charging documents. The arrest came the day after Thornton pleaded guilty to charges from a December incident in Roy where a man was hit in the head with a full beer can thrown by Thornton.

That incident Dec. 26 began with the exchange of angry text messages and escalated to the point Thornton and an accomplice went to the victim’s home in Roy where the assault occurred. Thornton faces sentencing May 30 in the Roy incident.
