The state 3-A baseball and softball playoffs will begin on Saturday, with the boys soccer finale wrapping up a busy day in the 3-A classification.
Region 11 champion Bear River will host opening-round softball games on Saturday morning, with the winners advancing to the 3-A tournament on May 17-19 at Valley Complex.
Bear River will play at Juan Diego, while Morgan will play at unbeaten Spanish Fork in Saturday's baseball openers. Winners will advance to the 3-A tourney on May 17-19 at Kearn High.
Ogden takes on Juan Diego Friday night in the 3-A soccer semfinals at Jordan High. Game time is 6:45 p.m. A win would put the Tigers in Saturday's title game 11 a.m. at Rio Tinto Stadium.
In Friday's 2-A semifinals, Layton Christian will battle Manti at 4:30 p.m. at Juan Diego High, with St. Joseph meeting Wasatch Academy at 6:45 p.m. The winners will play at 1:30 p.m. at Rio Tinto for the title.
Utah Hall of Fame to honor 7 coaches
The Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation will honor seven former coaches during the 2012 Distinguished Coaches and Coaches of Merit Banquet on May 16.
