NORTH OGDEN -- North Ogden Kiwanis Club members are pleased to have a new Achievement Award for graduating seniors at Weber and Fremont high schools.
The first award will be presented on Friday at Fremont High School; while the second award will be given on Tuesday at Weber High School.
The award will recognize a student whose progress at their school has been significant but did not warrant a scholarship award. Each of the two students will receive a $500 cash award to help further their education goals.
Kiwanis will also present the Clyde Shaw Award to a graduating senior at Weber High who is a member of the Key Club. Later this month, the club will recognize sixth-grade students in participating area schools with the Hope of America Awards.
In 2010 and 2011, the North Ogden Kiwanis gave 24 scholarship awards valued at more than $8,200 to students who participated in their Freedom Essay Contest. The club funds its support of local youth through annual fundraising events such as the Cherry Days Breakfast, an annual golf tournament at The Barn golf club, a yard sale in May, and through the generous donations of many local businesses and individuals.
