Syracuse approves annexation request

SYRACUSE -- A developer's bid to annex 20.66 acres of land on the southern part of the community into the city has been approved.

The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the annexation bid initiated by Michael J. Thayne. The property is at approximately 3700 South and 1500 West.

Irben Development, LLC of Roy, announced plans earlier this year to build Still Water Lake Estates, a development expected to include two 2,200-by-220-foot lakes, with 24 lots surrounding the bodies of water.

Sixty acres of the proposed development site are within the city, but the remaining 20 acres are in unincorporated Davis County.

Irben Development is a corporation created as a holding company for property left to the Thayne children by the late Irben John and LaVell Smedley Thayne, both former residents of Syracuse.
