Provo man who beat brother gets 1 to 15 years

PROVO, Utah -- A man convicted of beating his brother nearly to death with a stick in the middle of a Provo street has been sentenced to one to 15 years in prison.

The Daily Herald reports a judge ordered the sentence for Charles Davis at a Thursday hearing in which Davis told the court he'd acted wrongly.

Prosecutors say Charles Davis and his brother, Mark Davis, were arguing about a trailer and faced off with sticks Dec. 1, 2010, in Provo's Center Street.

Police say Mark Davis was struck in the head several times and had injuries so severe that doctors had to remove part of his brain. He testified he can't work as an electrician and now has difficulty understanding people.

Charles Davis has argued that he acted in self-defense.
