SANDY — Roy and Box Elder decided to wrap up the Region 5 boys soccer regular season with a match at Rio Tinto Stadium, site of the state soccer championships.
For the Bees it was a nice chance to close out the season on a great pitch.
For the Royals, they hope it was a preview of things to come as Roy earned a share of the league title with a 5-2 win over Box Elder.
“The kids felt so comfortable out there with the way we play and it was a great game for me to watch,” Roy coach Glenn Puckrin said. “We had a full busload of students come down and it was just a great atmosphere.”
Noah Jorgensen had a pair of goals on headers and added an assist for Roy. Trase Stapley also had two goals and Brody Bryan added the final score.
Defensively, Puckrin was pleased with the play of his back line: Bryan, Blake Toyn, Giovanny Vasquez and Nate Erickson.
Roy and Logan tied for the league title, with a coin toss to determine who will go in as the No. 1 and 2 seed from Region 5.
“Either way it’s a home game for us,” Puckrin said. “Now it’s one game at a time.”
