Utah man pleads guilty in Idaho fatal crash

KETCHUM, Idaho -- A Utah truck driver has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in the death last summer of a Hailey woman who had stopped at a road construction zone near Jerome.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports (http://bit.ly/INPJf5) 47-year-old Byrus Lyndon Gatewood of West Valley, Utah, pleaded guilty Monday in 5th District Court. Sentencing before Judge John K. Butler is set for June 11.

Gatewood was originally charged with felony vehicular manslaughter in the June 28, 2011 death of 62-year-old Dayle Evan Fowler.

The Idaho State Police said Fowler was outside her vehicle waiting for traffic to be allowed through the U.S. Highway 93 construction zone in south-central Idaho when she was struck by a tractor-trailer rig driven by Gatewood.
