SALT LAKE CITY -- The Brighton Bengals showed first Davis, and then Viewmont, how to finish a state tournament.
The Bengals won their seventh straight state 5-A boys tennis title on Saturday at Salt Lake City's Liberty Park, edging Viewmont by four points.
Brighton, Davis and Viewmont were tied after two rounds, but the Region 1 champion Darts fell in three semifinal matchups against the Bengals.
Davis' Spencer Hafen also fell in the semifinals, dropping a 6-1, 6-2 battle to Cottonwood's Zeke Richards at No. 1 singles.
At No. 3 singles, Brighton's Colin Holyoak topped Davis' Brighton Wells, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 1 doubles, Brighton's Brandon Budge and Justin Mansell beat Davis' CJ Ercanbrack and Cooper Brown in a wild 7-6(7-1), 5-7, 6-1 contest. At No. 2 doubles, the Bengals' Jeremy Leavitt and Anthony Panuzio beat Davis' Garrett Wilkes and Justin Schofield, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
In the finals, Brighton defeated Viewmont in three brackets to earn the title.
In the No. 1 singles title match, Viewmont's Sam Tullis topped Richards, 6-4, 6-3.
* ROWLAND HALL FALLS TO MANTI: At Provo, with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the Manti boys tennis team topped five-time champion Rowland Hall on Saturday in the final round of the 2-A/1-A tournament at BYU's courts.
Waterford's Jay T. Anderson won the No. 1 singles title.
