Injured UHP trooper out of hospital after Kaysville accident

KAYSVILLE — Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Dean Coy was treated and released from an Ogden-area hospital Sunday after the patrol car he was sitting in was struck from behind by another vehicle.

Coy was parked in the median of Interstate 15 at 8 a.m. Sunday, near the 200 North exit in Kaysville, when a Mini Cooper crashed into the back of Coy’s vehicle, UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said.

It is suspected the male driver of the Mini Cooper fell asleep at the wheel, Johnson said. No citations have yet been issued. The accident remains under investigation.

Coy was injured by the impact and was taken to the hospital where he was treated and later released. Johnson did not provide details on the extent of Coy’s injuries but said he suffered broken bones.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, who was alone in the car, was treated and released at the scene of the accident.
