OGDEN -- Harrison Regent retirement center will honor retired Air Force Lt. Col. John Stewart with its American Eagle Award for his service to country and his support of programs like the center's Outward Bound Veterans Program.
Center spokesman Ronald Matkin said the award will be presented at 6:30 p.m. today at the center, 4481 Harrison Blvd. Terry Schow, director of the Utah Department of Veterans Affairs, will make the presentation.
Matkin said Harrison Regent's parent company last year raised $1.2 million for the Outward Bound Veterans Program, which helps veterans adjust to life after the military by taking them on wilderness recreation experiences.
Stewart, a 22-year veteran of military service, has been active in the community since his retirement. He is active in the Outward Bound program, helping other veterans.
Stewart, who lives in South Ogden, served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as serving in Russia, Kazahkstan and Qatar.
