OGDEN -- Weber State track junior distance runner Sarah Callister has earned Academic All-District honors for the second straight year.
Callister was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII women's cross country/track and field first team. The All-District teams were announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Callister is one of 10 athletes named to the District VIII All-District First Team. Those 10 athletes will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors. District VIII covers eight states in the western United States.
Callister is one of two student-athletes from the Big Sky Conference and two from a school in Utah to earn First Team All-District honors.
The others were Miles Batty and Nachelle Mackie of BYU and Utah State's Daniel Howell.
Callister, a graduate of Ogden High School, carries a 4.00 grade point average as a nursing major at Weber State. She had another incredible year as a member of the Weber State women's cross country and track and field teams. In the past year she won four Big Sky Conference titles in indoor and outdoor track.
At the 2012 indoor track championships, Callister won the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters and was second in the mile in helping Weber State win the conference title. For her performance she was named the female athlete of the meet.
In outdoor track, she won the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters at the conference meet for the third consecutive season, becoming the first athlete in conference history to win both events in three straight years. She qualified for the NCAA First Round Championship in the 10,000 meters and just missed advancing to the NCAA Championships.
She also set a Weber State and Big Sky record in the 10,000 meters in outdoor track and posted five times on the school's all-time top 10 list.
Last fall in cross country, Callister earned all-conference honors by finishing fifth at the Big Sky Championships, helping Weber State win the conference title.
The Capital One Academic All-America teams will be announced later in June. Callister earned Capital One Academic All-America third team honors last year.
Earlier this spring she was named the Weber State female athlete of the year for the second straight year.
