PROVO -- Authorities say a fire that started west of Utah Lake is about 20 percent contained after crews worked into the wee hours of the morning.
Jason Curry of the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands says the fire has grown to more than 1,000 acres by Friday morning, but is not threatening any homes.
Investigators say they believe target shooting sparked the blaze a little before 5 p.m. Thursday. They've been analyzing the burn patterns and interviewing witnesses to determine more about the cause.
Winds whipped up the fire Thursday and sent smoke and flames across State Route 68, where it's blamed for causing two traffic accidents with minor injuries.
Curry says the weather has calmed Friday, and crews are focused on keeping flames away from nearby farms.
