HONEYVILLE — A 10-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after a near-drowning Saturday evening.
The boy was camping with his family at Crystal Hot Springs at 8215 N. Highway 38. He, his mother and two sisters went swimming at the pools, said Box Elder County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Kevin Potter.
The mother went back to the campsite after swimming but returned to the pools when her son did not return to the campsite, Potter said. Other bathers had pulled the boy out of the water and started resuscitating him, he said.
The boy was breathing again when an ambulance arrived to take him to Brigham City Community Hospital. But at some point during the about 10-mile trip, the ambulance hit debris in the road and got a flat tire, said Rick Bosworth, Brigham City Corporation spokesman.
The Life Flight helicopter was already on its way, so they shut down Interstate 15 in both directions long enough for the helicopter to land to pick up the boy, Bosworth said. He was then flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
