NEW YORK -- A taxi wreck on a rain-drenched New York City highway has killed the driver and a South Ogden woman who was taking her grandson to see the city sights. The boy is hospitalized.
The taxi was taking the tourists from Kennedy Airport to Manhattan around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when it got into the accident on the Long Island Expressway.
Police say the cab hit the back of a sportscar, rolled into the highway's right lane and then was crushed by a garbage truck that couldn't stop in time.
The impact killed 46-year-old cab driver Mohamed Hussain and the 60-year-old grandmother, Suzanne Nicholson of Ogden, Utah.
His grandfather says 11-year-old Gabriel Larsen, of Uintah, has broken bones and other injuries but is doing well.
No one in the sportscar or truck was hurt.
