AMERICAN FORK -- Police say a 65-year-old American Fork man found in the backyard of his burning home died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
American Fork Police Lt. Darren Falslev identified the man found dead Monday morning as Douglas Hall.
Fire officials say several gasoline cans and lighters were found in the home at West Main Street, and burn patterns indicate an accelerant was used in at least three different areas.
The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. and quickly extinguished.
Police and fire officials did not provide a motive for the man's actions.
American Fork Fire Battalion Chief Doug Bateman said the state fire marshal has been called to help with the investigation.
