Fruit Heights man comes forward after mattress crash

BRIGHAM CITY — A Fruit Heights man came forward after learning of a fatal crash involving a mattress and a motorcycle rider.

Gerald V. Holgreen, 53, was cited for failure to secure a load after Utah Highway Patrol troopers interviewed him and determined the mattress involved in the crash belonged to him. The misdemeanor carries a fine of $500.

Royce W. Munns, 46, of Brigham City, died Monday night. He was riding south on Interstate 15 at 10:45 p.m. when he ran into the mattress and box spring just north of the Weber/Box Elder county line, troopers said. Munns and his bike went down and he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

The Utah Highway Patrol tried to find the owner of the mattress Monday night but had come up empty until Holgreen contacted them.
