BOUNTIFUL — Police say a 14-year-old boy was hit by a truck while riding his bike home from a friend’s house around 10 p.m. Thursday.
He was hit at 400 N. 1000 East, when a man driving a truck did not see him.
“On the scene, he was considered critical,” said Bountiful Police Cpl. Derrick Pyles.
The boy was flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center for treatment.
Pyles said the boy was not wearing a helmet and was wearing dark clothes and did not have reflectors on his bike.
The law requires a light on the front and flashing lights on the rear of a bike when it’s ridden at night.
Pyle also suggests that night bike riders wear reflective vests.
“There are a couple of times that it’s happened already this year with other agencies as well,” he said about people being hit while riding their bikes.
Police did not know the boy’s condition Friday.
