HIGHLAND — A pair of Top of Utah golfers advanced to the finals of the 2012 Utah State Junior Amateur Match Play tournament at Alpine Country Club, but fell in Friday’s finals.
Salt Lake City’s Austin Banz topped Ogden’s Alex Herzog 5-and-4 in the 36-hole final of the boys ages 15-18 division.
In the girls 15-18 division, South Jordan’s Sirene Blair topped Jessica Sloot of Farmington, also 5-and-4.
In the ages 13-14 division, Ogden’s Dylan Chugg was victorious with a 1-up win over Max Brenchley of Alpine. On the girls side, Kaysville’s Laura Gerner defeated Kerstin Fotu of Highland in 19 holes.
In the ages 11-12 division, Farmington’s Cole Ponich lost to Arizona golfer Davis Evans 6-and-5, while South Jordan’s Tess Blair defeated Taylor Strasburg of Stansbury Park, 4-and-2.
At ages 10-under, Park City’s Parker Cutt defeated Braxton Watts of Farmington in 19 holes, while Caylyn Ponich of Farmington defeated Ameleya Angilau of South Jordan, 2-up.
International rugby in Utah
USA Rugby’s first an international rugby tournament started today in Utah.
The Junior Rugby Trophy tournament will also have games on june 18, 22, 26 and 30 at Murray Rugby Park. Eight national under-20 teams are battling for the trophy.
