FARMINGTON — A 25-year-old man entered not guilty pleas to kidnapping and rape charges.
Ethan Ezell Elvoid-Hall appeared in 2nd District Court on Tuesday. He is charged with first-degree felony kidnapping, first-degree felony rape, third-degree felony aggravated assault and class A misdemeanor damage to or interruption of a communication device.
Elvoid-Hall has been held in Davis County Jail on no bail since his arrest May 22 in Kaysville.
Another hearing is set for July 3.
Kaysville Police Capt. Brent Ward said Elvoid-Hall broke through a basement window of his ex-girlfriend’s home May 21.
“She came out of the shower and found him in her house,” Ward said.
The two started fighting, and at one point Elvoid-Hall got two knives from the kitchen. He threatened to kill the woman and then kill himself, Ward said.
He also choked the woman, threw her around and pulled her hair, Ward said. He then raped her.
The woman tried to leave the home several times, but Elvoid-Hall kept her in the house. He also took her cellphone away from her as she tried to call 911.
She finally was able to leave the home through a window and called police from a neighbor’s home.
Police found Elvoid-Hall walking down the street. He had a warrant out for his arrest for a third-degree felony theft charge out of Layton. Ward said Elvoid-Hall had the woman’s cellphone with him and that two 911 calls were on it.
They also found the knives thrown in bushes near the house.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and also was examined by a forensics nurse.
