Government takes money, sets up unconstitutional programs

Editor,

Charles Trentelman didn’t like my letter to the editor when I opposed our county commissioners for going after a $75,000 grant to "map" out weeds (June 12, "Time to weed out anti-government hysteria"). We own and rent property and we have never mapped our weeds out, have you? The government also takes our money and sets up all of these unconstitutional programs that they feel are necessary to take care of us, only, they make matters worse.

How much Utah land is controlled by the government? Almost 70 percent, you say. If the government would let us have our land we could have private ownership of the land and they could take care of the weeds. But, the government won’t let us have our land--freedom haters.

Next, the government keeps taking our money to support all these unnecessary and unconstitutional programs. People are left with diminished incomes to take care of their families and yes, even their own weeds. When the people are more worried about keeping a roof over their head, food on the table, clothes on their backs, my guess is the weeds would become less important on the list. Let’s reverse course; restore the government back to its limited and proper role so the people can keep more of their hard-earned money and take care of their own weeds.

Mr. Trentelman thinks a little bit of socialism is okay. How about a little bit of cancer or theft, are they okay too? This is America and this country was set up so that we could be free--free to choose for ourselves how and where we will spend our hard earned money.

The government was set up to protect our freedoms and liberties and that’s where it should stop. Mr. Trentelman doesn’t believe we as Americans can take care of ourselves. He feels we need the government to force us, regulate us and control us. There are many communist, socialist, Marxist countries to choose from. Feel free to pick one, pack your belongings and move there. They will be happy to accommodate you with your need to be forced, regulated and controlled.
