WEST VALLEY CITY -- A woman who prompted an Amber Alert when police say she abducted her daughter from a West Valley City elementary school in March now faces charges in the case.
The 38-year-old Venus Athena Barker was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor custodial interference and criminal trespass on school property.
Authorities issued an Amber Alert March 9 when 10-year-old Aliyah Kay Crowder was taken from a cafeteria line at Silver Hills Elementary School. Officials say Barker didn't have legal custody of the girl.
The girl was returned to her father after police say they spoke with Barker on the phone, discussed the ongoing custody battle and reached an agreement.
Barker is set for arraignment July 17. It's not clear whether she has an attorney.
