WEST JORDAN — An autopsy is set Wednesday morning for a 6-year-old girl found dead in a West Jordan canal.
West Jordan police say they’re investigating the death of Sierra Newbold as a possible homicide.
Police Sgt. Drew Sanders says a family member reported the girl missing from a home near 2400 West and 7100 South about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers who responded found the child dead in a nearby canal a short time later.
The death happened in the same neighborhood where two houses burned in a fire Saturday. Both homes were destroyed after a tree fell on a power line and sparked the blaze.
