Amid wildfires, Governor pushes fireworks safety

SALT LAKE CITY — Officials weary from fighting multiple wildfires this week are urging 4th of July revelers not to start another one with their fireworks.

Gov. Gary Herbert tells Utahns to have a bucket of water or a hose handy when lighting up. He warns never to try re-lighting or repairing malfunctioning fireworks.

He also says not to use fireworks in restricted areas or anywhere near dry grass, weeds, trees and shrubs.

Fireworks are limited to the Independence Day period July 1-7, and the Pioneer Day period July 21-27.

State public safety officials have released a city-by-city guide of local restrictions.
