SALT LAKE CITY— Salt Lake City police have detained a suspect in the stabbing of a criminal defense lawyer, who left a trail of blood in his neighborhood looking for help.
Police aren’t identifying the 63-year-old victim, but a law partner say it’s Steven Killpack, the former federal public defender now in private practice.
The law partner, Gil Athay, tells The Associated Press that Killpack was stabbed early Thursday in or near his house.
Athay says Killpack is in stable condition after surgery. Police initially listed the victim in critical condition.
Salt Lake police reported they had made an arrest by Twitter. They didn’t immediately return calls Thursday from the AP.
There was no word on the suspect’s identity or motive.
Police gave an address for the stabbing that matched Killpack’s residence.
