WEST POINT -- The city council recently updated and amended the city code regarding the cemetery ordinance.
Previously, the code stated that cemetery maintenance shall occur every Thursday of the week. The city found this unrealistic and changed the wording of the ordinance. Maintenance will now be preformed on an as-needed basis.
It also states that only grave decorations deemed unsightly or that may interfere with maintenance by the cemetery crew will be discarded as necessary and items deemed of value will be stored for one month.
Prices were also adjusted to reflect actual costs to the city. A resident adult burial plot increased from $200 to $450. A non-resident adult burial plot increased from $300 to $1,000.
A public hearing was held and no comments were made. This passed with a unanimous vote.
