Around the Remote: ‘Closer’ wraps it up, Elvis memorabilia hoarded

Don’t miss

“The Closer” — It’s time to wrap up the interrogations and prepare to say goodbye to Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick). After reigning as one of cable’s most popular dramas since 2005, “The Closer” is closing shop with a final run of six episodes. In the opener, Brenda tangles with her longtime nemesis and suspected rapist-murderer Philip Stroh (Billy Burke). However, a stunning courtroom maneuver by Brenda may jeopardize the case. 7 p.m. Monday, TNT.

Other bets

• Inspector Lewis (Kevin Whatley) is back with another compelling case on “Masterpiece Mystery!” But as he and Hathway (Laurence Fox) investigate the murder of an English professor, they run into interference from an amateur sleuth. 8 p.m. today, KUED Channel 7.

• Elvis has left the building? Not really. In the season opener of “Hoarding: Buried Alive,” we meet an Elvis impersonator whose collection of memorabilia has taken over his New York apartment. 10 p.m. today, TLC.

• Leave it to producer Nigel Lythgoe (“American Idol,” “So You Think You Can Dance”) to bring yet another twist to the talent-show genre. On “Opening Act,” performers spotted on the Internet are given a chance to open for pop artists such as Rod Stewart and Nicki Minaj. 11 p.m. Monday, E!

• Season 4 of “White Collar” figures to take the show in a different direction, now that Neal (Matt Bomer) and Mozzie (Willie Garson) have fled to a tropical island with all that money. The episode airs just before the Season 3 premiere of “Covert Affairs.” 10 p.m. Tuesday, USA.

• “NY Med” is a compelling eight-episode documentary series that captures the life-and-death stories of the prestigious New York-Presbyterian medical centers. Among the staff members featured is Dr. Mehmet Oz, who remains a world-class heart surgeon even as he thrives as a talk-show host. 9 p.m. Tuesday, KTVX Channel 4.

• As if things could get any more intense on “Damages,” the legal thriller will pit cutthroat attorney Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) against her protege, Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne), in its final season. 9 p.m. Wednesday, DirecTV.

• “Big Brother,” the reality series that turns real people into science-project lab rats for our voyeuristic pleasure, is back with more stupefying shenanigans. So is the “Chenbot” —  host Julie Chen. 8 p.m. Thursday, KUTV Channel 2.

• “Comic Store Heroes” is a fun-filled hourlong special that takes viewers behind the scenes of the largest retailer of comics and collectibles in the country. In other words, geek heaven. 6 p.m. Friday, National Geographic.

• “True Bloodthirst” is a truly fang-tastic — and cheeky — title. But will this low-budget TV film about a clash between vampires and humans in the not-so-distant future be able to suck us in? 9 p.m. Saturday, Syfy.
