Restaurant sign fire can’t stop the show

HARRISVILLE — A neon sign fire did a few thousand dollars in damage to a Harrisville business, but did not stop its evening plans.

An owner of Boccia’s D’Italia, at 1045 N. Washington Blvd., walked outside about 5 p.m. to see the last A in his sign was broken and on fire. The neon letters that spell out the name of the two-story restaurant adorn the top of its street-facing wall.

Firefighters arrived and had the fire out within a few minutes. North View Fire Capt. Gordon Flinders estimated the damage at $4,000. Flinders said investigation into the cause is ongoing.

A dinner-theater-style cabaret act was scheduled at the restaurant for later that evening. Once the smoke cleared, Boccia’s D’Italia planned for the show to go on.
