Two killed in Lake Powell boat collision

PAGE, Ariz. — Authorities have released the names of a New Mexico couple who were killed in a collision of two personal water craft on Lake Powell.

The two people who died in Saturday’s collision are Russell and Wendy Gallegos of Fairview, N.M. Both were 44 years old.

The couple was struck by their 15-year-old daughter, who survived the collision.

The family was using the small vessels for sightseeing on the San Juan arm of the lake when one of them slowed down and was struck by the other.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office in Utah, where the collision occurred, is investigating the crash and says drugs and alcohol weren’t involved in the accident.
