Hearing needed for protection zone

FARMINGTON — It will be at least one more week before the Davis County Commission decides whether Hooper-area farm owner Florence Parker Allen gets to place her 16-acre farm in an agricultural protection zone.

The commission, which was expected to take action at its Tuesday meeting, tabled the request at the last minute after realizing that a required public hearing had not been held.

County Commissioner Bret Millburn apologized for any inconvenience caused by missing that particular step.

The request will be considered at the commission’s July 17 meeting.

Allen, 85, said she asked that her working Utah Century Farm be placed in an agricultural protection zone to prevent any nuisance complaints that may arise from future encroaching development. The property around Allen’s farm, which is in unincorporated Davis County at 5000 W. 1937 South, is currently surrounded by open lots.
