FARMINGTON -- City leaders are committed to putting up new Christmas decorations in the future.
Acting far in advance of the season in order to meet lead times, city leaders voted recently to spend approximately $37,314 on new holiday decorations.
A popular topic for years among the council, the city's existing holiday lighting was damaged in last December's windstorm.
City Manager Dave Millheim said there is money in the 2011-2012 fiscal year budget for the lighting, but not enough. The vote authorizes the city to move ahead with the purchase, based on partial funding from the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget, which won't be finalized until next month.
The city got pricing from three different companies in their effort to fix and spruce up the holiday decorations.
