SALT LAKE CITY— The suspect in the killing of a 6-year-old West Jordan girl is refusing to leave his jail cell and skipped a court appearance.

Terry Lee Black was supposed to appear in 3rd District Court Thursday on unrelated bank robbery and vehicle theft charges.

Judge Elizabeth Hruby-Mills told Black’s lawyer to make certain Black appears Friday on charges related to the slaying of Sierra Newbold.

Black was arrested three days after Newbold’s death on charges that accuse him of robbing a West Jordan bank using a stolen car.

West Jordan police say that arrest allowed them to link Black to the slaying of Newbold using DNA and other evidence.

Black’s lawyer in the robbery case, Ariel Chino, says he will plead not guilty. Chino says Black doesn’t have a lawyer in the murder, kidnapping and child rape case.
