BRIGHAM CITY -- Women of Community Presbyterian Church will host their annual summer social for women of the community from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Gillespie Hall, 130 E. 300 South, in Brigham City.
The social is an informal occasion for women to meet over light refreshments, make new friends and renew old friendships.
Invitations have been sent to women's organizations of local congregations.
An open invitation also is extended to all women in the community, including those who can drop by from work during their lunch period.
Presbyterian women have been hosting this occasion each summer for about 50 years. The first one aimed at providing a get-acquainted opportunity for women who had recently moved to the area for family employment at Thiokol.
The first social was held in the Rees Pioneer Park bowery, and there were almost as many children present as there were women.
Now, some of those women and grown children are among those who help host the summer social. Children are welcome to attend with their mothers.
