VERNAL -- Hundreds of volunteers will form a human chain to move another 100,000 books to the new Uintah County Library in Vernal.
The 32,000-square-foot library is set to open Aug. 6.
Money from mineral leases for oil and natural gas development in Utah paid for the new library. Getting the books moved is requiring different energy.
The Deseret News reports about 300 volunteers handed book after book down the line Saturday to move the first 50,000. Twice that many books will be moved in the next week to complete the project.
Uintah County Commissioner Darlene Burns says the new facility is almost four times larger than one built in 1958 and expanded twice. It includes a large multipurpose room, smaller classroom and a special area for younger readers.
