Kenneth D. Schoonmaker and Vivian Ahrens of Ogden celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with their family on July 14.
They were married July 11, 1947, in Ogden. Their vows were solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple in 1957. They have held various positions in the church — he served as ward clerk, and she was ward music director.
He was born to Lester and Clara Schoonmaker on Feb. 14, 1926, in Ogden. He graduated from Weber High School and served two years in the Navy and five years in the Naval Reserve. He attended Weber State University for eight consecutive years. He established Schoonmaker Electro Mechanical Inc. in 1950, which is a thriving business today. He retired from Defense Depot Ogden in 1981.
She graduated from Ogden High School in 1946, then went to work for American Can Co. When he began the family business, she worked as the office manager.
Their favorite trip was driving 6,600 miles to Alaska.
As fans of Weber State University basketball, they have been season ticket holders from the first day they were available.
Their children and spouses are Kathy and David Smith, Marilyn Layton, Michael and Julie Schoonmaker, and David and Sherilyn Schoonmaker.
They have 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
