KAYSVILLE -- A large, old tree that survived the December windstorm crashed onto the roof of the Kaysville police department Monday.
"I was working at my desk, reading and approving police reports, when I heard an awful crumpling sound," said Kaysville Police Capt. Brent Ward.
Another police officer came in a few minutes later and told him there was a tree on the roof.
The tree fell on the east side of the building, directly over Ward's office, around 4:40 p.m. He didn't see it through the window because it was just barely out of his view.
Kaysville Fire Department quickly showed up to make sure no one was injured and to check on the building's damage.
Ward said the wall appears to be "pushed in a little bit." However, he was uncertain how much damage was done to the roof.
He said he saw the thunderstorm coming in and walked outside just moments before to check on it.
