Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork...
SPANISH FORK — A 20-year-old Provo man has been re-booked into jail after authorities say he escaped from work release and tried to steal a Good Samaritan’s car.
Court documents show Tyler Brittain was taken from the Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork to a work program in Lindon about 6 p.m. Saturday and vanished about 15 minutes later.
Officials say it looks like Brittain took his supervisor’s truck until it ran out of gas on Interstate 15 in Springville. Police say the man was picked up by a passerby who tried to take him to a gas station.
But authorities say Brittain tried to wrestle the keys from the driver and drive away.
Brittain was eventually arrested after the vehicle crashed.
He was re-booked on charges including escaping jail and vehicle theft.STORY:201207170029Utah inmate's escape ends after crash, struggle/Local/2012/07/17/Utah-inmate-s-escape-ends-after-crash-struggle.html-1
