SALT LAKE CITY— A lawyer for a Republican Party activist says his client denies allegations of sexual assault from four women.

Gregory Nathan Peterson’s lawyer tells The Associated Press the women are making false charges.

Attorney Gerald Salcido says Peterson will plead not guilty to 23 counts of rape, kidnapping, sexual abuse, assault, sexual battery and burglary.

The charges were filed Wednesday by Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.

Salcido says prosecutors in other counties who took complaints from two of the women declined to file charges for lack of evidence.

Peterson is accused of assaults in Salt Lake, Wasatch and Cache counties. He’s due in 3rd District Court on Monday. He is being held at Salt Lake County jail.
