Phoenix man charged in fatal Moab wreck

MONTICELLO — A Phoenix man faces charges of vehicular homicide and drunk driving in a car crash that killed a 57-year-old man.

Thirty-two-year-old Erik H. Yazzie is accused of causing the April 21 accident that killed Filemon Montoya about 15 miles south of Moab.

Authorities allege Yazzie was driving drunk and crossed a center line of a road and collided with Montoya’s car.

The Salt Lake City Tribune reported Monday that the San Juan County attorney filed charges July 13 and there is a warrant for Yazzie’s arrest.

The vehicular homicide charge is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
