OGDEN -- Friends of Rich "T-Bone" Thompson have announced an '80s-themed fundraising event to benefit the former Weber County sheriff's deputy, now battling stage IV pancreatic cancer.

The benefit is "Mullet Mania" and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at Ben Lomond High School, 1080 9th St.

A 5-K race is planned, with entry fees going to help Thompson, 39, who now works for the South Jordan Police Department. Race registration is $10 to $20, depending on the participant's age.

Back at the school, plans include a silent auction, a dunk tank, carnival games, a visit from the Jazz Bear, entertainment by groups, including the Greg Simpson Band, and a balloon launch. Party admission is $5.

Those who race or attend the party are encouraged to wear 1980s fashions. For information or for race registration, visit www.anythingforafriend.com/help-your-friend/rich-thompson.
