1 dead, 1 hurt after SLC shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — A 36-year-old man is behind bars after a weekend shooting in Salt Lake City that killed one man and injured another.

Authorities say Michael Eugene Vigil was booked on suspicion of aggravated murder after Saturday’s shooting.

Salt Lake City police say three men got in a fight on North Grant Street about 8 p.m. when Vigil allegedly pulled a gun and shot at two other men. Thirty-three-year-old Antonio Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Officials say several people witnessed the shooting, including children. Police say an 8-year-old has a minor leg injury that may have come from shrapnel.

Authorities tell the Deseret News says the three men knew each other, but it’s not clear whether the shooting was gang-related.
