UHP identifies 2 killed in crash near Magna

MAGNA  — Authorities have identified two Utah residents killed in a weekend T-bone crash on State Route 201 near Magna.

Utah Highway Patrol officials say a Toyota Highlander pulled out in front of a Mazda Protege about 10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of state routes 201 and 202.

Officials say the driver of the Protege swerved to avoid the Highlander, but the two vehicles collided.

The 53-year-old driver of the Highlander was killed. Authorities identified him as Lehi resident Joseph B. Rawls.

A 22-year-old passenger in the Protege also died. Officials identified her as Tooele resident Beverly Maestas.

Three other people in the Protege were injured and taken to hospitals.

Troopers say it doesn’t look like either driver was speeding or under the influence.
