CENTERVILLE -- A truck crashed into a house here at 5:45 p.m. Sunday.
The crash, at 1850 North and 517 West, occurred after a 77-year-old man accidentally pushed down too hard on the accelerator of his Ford F-150 pickup truck, police said.
He was backing out of his driveway at the time, states a police news release.
The truck traveled in reverse from the man's home, going across 1850 North, and continued over the curb and front yard of his neighbor's home, the release states.
After entering the neighbor's yard, the truck went over shrubs and yard curbing before jumping over a nearly 2-foot-high concrete porch.
After jumping up onto the front porch, the truck hit a large, brick pillar attached to the home, knocking it down and sending it flying into the driveway.
The truck then struck the front of the home, causing a partial collapse of the exterior wall.
Medics from South Davis Metro Fire Department responded and checked out the elderly man.
No serious medical issues were found and the driver was not transported.
Centerville police officers did not find any indications of impairment.
The man was issued a citation and is being referred to the Driver License Division for a re-evaluation of his driving privilege.
The home was occupied by the homeowner and family at the time, but no one inside was injured. No one was hit by the truck as it went across both sidewalks and the roadway.
