One crew still at Ridge Fire site near Layton

LAYTON — A fire that originally threatened a new subdivision was 100 percent contained by 10 p.m. Sunday.

The Ridge Fire, which was reported about 6 p.m. Saturday, burned 47.2 acres of grass and oak brush just east of Layton in the Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Salt Lake Ranger District.

Kathy Jo Pollock, a spokeswoman for Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Region 4, said two crews of 20 firefighters and one crew of 10 remained in the area Monday strengthening the fire line and mopping up hot spots. One crew will also be there today until noon.

Officials have not released a cost estimate for putting out the fire. Pollock said officials believe the fire is human-caused, but they cannot find evidence of how it was started.
