JACKSON, Wyo. — Two Top of Utah residents were killed in a crash involving an automobile and a motorcycle Saturday in Wyoming.
Arnold Monk, 72, of Layton, and Gerald V. West, 57, of Ogden, died in the accident shortly before 3:30 p.m., on U.S. 89 about 18 miles south of Jackson, Wyo., according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Gloria Y. Monk, 69, of Layton, was the driver and Arnold Monk was the passenger in a 2002 Toyota Camry that was traveling south on U.S. 89.
The news release does not indicate the relationship between Gloria and Arnold Monk. The car drifted off the right side of the highway causing Gloria Monk to overcorrect the vehicle to the left and put the car into a slide, according to the news release.
West was traveling northbound on a 1997 Gold Wing motorcycle and saw the Camry coming into his lane of travel. He braked but was unable to avoid colliding into the front passenger side of the vehicle, the news release reported.
Arnold Monk was wearing a seatbelt and West wasn’t wearing a helmet, according to the release. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Gloria Monk was not injured, Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the Wyoming Highway Patrol said Monday.
The news release does not state if any charges have been filed.
