Motorcyclist hurt in collision with deer

EDEN — A man’s cross-country motorcycle tour hit a snag Tuesday when a deer ran out in front of him.

Steven Clements, 44, and his friend have been driving from California to Massachusetts, where they live.

But when they got to 3600 N. Highway 158 in Eden, Clements hit a buck that ran out onto the road around 1:30 p.m., Weber County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryon Hadley said.

Clements, who was wearing a helmet, took a hard fall off the motorcycle and suffered back injuries. He was taken in an ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.

The deer was dead by the time emergency responders showed up. It’s unusual for deer to be out on the road during the middle of the day, Hadley said.
