HUNTSVILLE -- A Weber County sheriff's sergeant cut a moose loose from a swing set that it was trapped in.
Sgt. Lane Findlay came to the scene after a passerby saw the moose with its antlers tangled in the swing set of a Causey Estates cabin on Sunday afternoon. Because wildlife officials were an hour away and the moose was in distress, Findlay approached the moose with a pair of cutters to free it from the chains himself. After about three minutes and several attempts to get close to the moose, Findlay freed the full-grown bull from its bonds.
Although the moose was free to go, he was so exhausted from being stuck in the swings that he walked over to the cabin and laid down, Findlay said. He brought the moose some water and hosed him down to cool him off. Wildlife officials later arrived and confirmed that the moose was all right.
Findlay advised that swing sets, volleyball nets and the like around seasonally used cabins can be dangerous for animals, as they can get caught in them and no one will know for a long time.
