IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -- On a night when both teams seemed capable of putting up a big inning, the Ogden Raptors scored four times in the top of the eighth and outlasted the Idaho Falls Chukars 8-6 at Melaleuca Field.
Jesus Valdez highlighted the rally with a two-run home run off Idaho Falls pitcher Fernando Cruz (1-3) who took the loss.
Ogden pitcher Michael Drowne (2-1) earned the victory and Owen Jones held the Chukars scoreless in the ninth to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Delvis Morales led the Raptors' offense. The second baseman went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Designated hitter Eric Smith collected two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Smith hit an RBI double in the eighth and was on base when Valdez hit his sixth home run of the year, a deep fly that sailed over the right field fence.
Idaho Falls broke out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the second but the Raptors struck back with two more of their own in the top of the third.
A back-and-forth battle, the game saw Ogden score twice more in the top of the six but the Chukars put up three more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
