Divers recover 2nd woman’s body from Lake Powell

KANAB — Authorities say they’ve recovered the body of a second young woman from Turkey who apparently drowned in Lake Powell.

Officials say divers found the body of 21-year-old Betul Eryildirim (BEH’-tuhl uhr-ee-ILL’-duhr-eem) Thursday evening in about 30 feet of water near the Bullfrog Marina.

Her 21-year-old friend, Merve Tokel, was found floating face down Wednesday in the same popular swimming area.

Kane County officials say the two women were good friends with birthdays only eight days apart, and they’d been working in the area for the summer.

Authorities say they don’t expect foul play and believe the women’s deaths are accidents.
