Lyman J. "Butch" and Connie Thurgood Freestone of Clinton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Family and friends may attend an open house in their honor from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Clinton 25th Ward building, 2841 W. 1300 North.
They were married on June 21, 1962, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.Both are graduates of Davis High School and have been lifelong residents of Davis County.
He was born to Lyman S. and Arline Freestone in Ogden, and was raised in Clinton (next door to their current home). She was born to Dale B. and Lavon Thurgood in Ogden, and was raised in Syracuse on the family farm.
He spent most of his early working years self-employed, owning several carpeting, furniture and sporting goods businesses. His later career was spent managing the floor covering department at R.C. Willey's until his retirement in 2010.
She is best known by associates, students, friends and family as the secretary at Clinton Elementary School, where she worked for 28 years.
Their children and their spouses are Shelly and Kevin Bitton of West Point, David and Janet Freestone of West Haven, and Tina Sorrels (deceased). They have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
